Sweet and Sour Turnips

1 yellow turnip, diced
cup butter
1 cup beef stock (or chicken)
cup wine vinegar
5 peppercorns
1 tsp ground ginger
cup sugar
1 tsp salt
1 tsp mace

Boil everything together and then simmer for about an hour. Remove peppercorns and mash turnips.
