Baked Apples with Cinnamon Stemsfrom the book "Shakespeare's Kitchen"Prepared by Gwenhwyfar Dinas Emrys Served at the Herne the Hunter December 2004
24 whole cloves Preheat the oven to 350. Grease an 8-9 inch round baking pan. Press 2 whole cloves into the apple and place the apples upright in the pan. Combine the dates, citrus peel, liquer and brown sugar in a small bowl. Spoon some of the date mixture into the center of each apple. Place a thin pat of butter on the top of each apple and press the cinnamon stick into the center, leaving ¼ " exposed. Cover the pan with aluminum foil and bake for 20 minutes. Remove the foil and bake another 30 minutes until apples are tende Serves 12 |
